Creole Origins: Crafting Creole Traditions

Join Cane River National Heritage Area for a hands-on celebration of Creole culture at Creole Origins: Crafting Creole Traditions on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum.
This free, family-friendly event invites visitors of all ages to experience the artistry, foodways, and cultural traditions that have shaped the Cane River region for generations. Enjoy traditional craft demonstrations, food samplings, and opportunities to meet and learn from local culture bearers and artisans who continue to preserve and pass down Creole traditions today.
Crafting Creole Traditions is designed to complement CRNHA’s Creole Origins exhibit, currently on display through March at the museum. Together, the exhibit and event offer a deeper understanding of Creole heritage through both historical interpretation and engaging, hands-on experiences.
Whether you’re a lifelong local or visiting Natchitoches for the first time, this event offers a meaningful way to connect with the living traditions of Cane River’s Creole culture.
