DESCRIPTION:Flutist Dr. Elizabeth McNutt will present a recital at Northwestern State University on Monday\, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream will be available at nsula.edu/capa/livestream.\nMcNutt will be accompanied by cellist Paul Christopher\, an associate professor of cello at NSU. \nThe program will include works by Brian Ferneyhough\, Ursula Mamlok\, Sungji Hong\, Elliott Carter and Franco Donatoni. \nMcNutt is internationally recognized for her performances of innovative contemporary and electroacoustic music. She has premiered countless works and performed in Europe\, Asia\, and throughout the U.S. Her playing has been described as “commanding” (LA Times)\,\n“fearless and astounding” (Flute Talk)\, “high-octane” (Musicworks)\, and “spellbinding” (Computer Music Journal). In addition to her solo CD “pipe wrench\,” her recordings are released on the CRI\, Centaur\, SEAMUS and Parma labels. She founded and directs the Sounds Modern series in Fort Worth\, plays chamber music in the Calliope Duo and improvises in a trio. \nMcNutt is committed to scholarly research\, with articles published in “Organised Sound\,” “Flutist Quarterly” and “Music Theory Online Journal.” She is on the faculty of the University of North Texas\, where she teaches flute\, directs the new music ensemble Nova and coordinates the related field in contemporary music performance.

SUMMARY:Don't Die Wondering Gold Classic
DESCRIPTION:The 37th Don’t Die Wondering Golf Classic\, set for Sept. 13 at Northwestern Hills Golf Course\, on the state Highway 1 bypass\, remains the primary fundraising effort for the women’s basketball program under sixth-year head coach Anna Nimz.\nThe Don’t Die Wondering Golf Tournament began in 1989 at the behest of former head coach James Smith\, who took the phrase from a locker room speech by former NSU point guard Angela Ortega.\nEntry fees for this year’s event are $450 per team or $125 per individuals playing solo. The four-person\, 18-hole\, scramble format tournament will begin at 8 a.m.\, with a shotgun start.\nDuring their round\, golfers will have the opportunities to shoot for two new cars with a hole-in-one challenge as well as have their golf skills challenged throughout the course with various games\, skill challenges and other surprises along the way.\nFood and drinks will also be available at the club house and throughout the course.\nVisit www.NSUDemons.com/DDW for additional details on the tournament and information on how to sign up yourself of your team.\nHole sponsorships and corporate sponsorships for the event are also available. SUMMARY:NSU Brass Extravaganza
DESCRIPTION:NSU’s brass ensembles will combine for a “NSU Brass Extravaganza” on Sunday\, March 16 at 1:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. A livestream of the concert will be available at nsula.edu/capa/capalivestream. \nThe concert will include the NSU Trumpet Ensemble directed by Galindo Rodriguez\, the NSU Horn Choir directed by Dr. Alexis Sczepanik\, the NSU Trombone Choir directed by Dr. J. Mark Thompson and the NSU Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble directed by Dr. Masahito Kuroda. \nAccording to Kuroda\, this is the first time all brass ensembles have combined for a concert. \nThe Trumpet Ensemble will play “BLAZON” by Gilbert Vinter and “Chase “N” Lizards” by Vern Sielert. The Horn Choir will perform “Still Waters” by Drew Phillips and “The Legend of Zelda Suite” by K. Kondo arranged by Wallace. The Trombone Choir will play “A Portrait” by George Gershwin arranged by D. Armitage. The Euphonium-Tuba Ensemble will perform “Yesterday” by John Lennon & Paul McCartney\, arranged by A. Miyagawa and “In the Mood” by Glenn Miller\, arranged by NSU music education major and member of the Tuba Ensemble Alexander Miller for this concert and is published by Sheet Music Plus (www.sheetmusicplus.com). \nThe concert will conclude with all ensembles combining to debut an arrangement of “Under the Sea” from the Disney classic\, “A Little Mermaid” by NSU Assistant Professor of Music Theory Adam Hudlow.
