Plein Air Painting Event Coming to Natchitoches

February 28, 2019

Feb. 28 2019—Be on the lookout for easels and brushes the weekend of March 28-30, 2019. The Outdoor Painters Society will be in Natchitoches for a “paint out” event. Artists will set up on Thursday in various places along Front Street and in surrounding neighborhoods. On Friday, they will visit Melrose Plantation and the plantations of the Cane River Creole National Historical Park; and, on Saturday, paint on Lake Sibley and the Red River from Grand Ecore Visitors Center. They end their event and meet at 5:30 p.m. at Mariner’s Restaurant where they will show their work from the weekend. Feel free to stop by, meet the artists, and see their work.

The Outdoor Painters Society is a non-for-profit organization of professional and amateur artists who are dedicated to the art of painting “en plein air.”  The group was formed to create opportunities and incentives for artists of like-mind to come together and paint in beautiful locations. OPS welcomes all artists that are interested in painting outdoors, and supporters that want to stay close to the group.  They promotes the tradition of plein air painting and provide opportunities for emerging artists to socialize and learn from professionals.

OPS is host of the premier Plein Air Southwest, a "members only" juried event that attracts national attention and is promoted in major art magazines. Plein Air Southwest has earned the reputation as one of the premier events of spring.  It showcases the incredible talent within OPS membership and serves to promote an appreciation for the process of painting “en plein air.” All works are completed outdoors on location and are characterized by the bold use of color, design and the freshness of paint application.  This year’s event will be held in Galveston, TX, May 5-12, 2019.

In addition, OPS hosts several free paint out events for members, held throughout the South and Southwest, with events ranging from 1 to 7 days of painting.  Members also enjoy demonstrations and discounts on workshops by nationally known artists.  Its website and mailings include interesting blog postings, paint out itineraries, and the monthly newsletter, “Plein Talk.”  For more information go to the OPS website: www.outdoorpainterssociety.com.
