Natchitoches was first featured on the big screen in 1959 when John Wayne, William Holden and Constance Towers starred in The Horse Soldiers.  An 1863 fact-based story about a Union mission to destroy a railroad junction deep within the Confederate territory.  This film includes scenes from Oakland Plantation and Oaklawn Plantations.  Natchitoches garnered international screen notoriety when a play by local author, Robert Harling, became the blockbuster hit, Steel Magnolias.  Since then, visitors from around the globe have come to see the filming sites of these movies, plus many more.  Other movies filmed in Natchitoches include: The Man in the Moon, The Year Without a Santa Claus, The Garden Club, For Sale By Owner, Clementine Hunter’s World and many more!
