Black Lake

Black Lake (aka Clear Lake) is located near Campti, Louisiana in Natchitoches and Red River Parishes. Known for it’s trophy largemouth bass and crappie fishing, it’s a little-known slice of fishing heaven.

Situated near the Red River, Black Lake is a 13,800 public lake located in Natchitoches and Red River Parishes of Louisiana.  It was formed by a massive log jam in the Red River in the 1800s.  Black Lake offers 50 miles of shoreline with an average depth of 8 feet to 18 feet.

Blake Lake is a well-known fishing destination for largemouth bass and is home to several fishing tournaments.

Louisiana Highway 9 runs across Black Lake. On the west side of Highway 9 the body of water is called Black Lake — the east is called Clear Lake or Clear Lake Bayou. The Clear Lake side is near another body of water: Saline Lake. Between Clear Lake and Saline Lake is the Alan Chiverly Dam, constructed in 1934. Road 1226 also extends between the lakes.

In addition to fishing, Black Lake is a nice location for birding. The abundance of cypress trees and vegetation around the lake provides a perfect habitat for Louisiana birds and wildlife.

Boat Launch: A public boat launch is located approximately 15 miles northeast of Natchitoches on Hwy 1226, 4.1 miles north of U.S. Hwy 84 E.

Grab a great bite to eat after a day of fishing Black Lake at the Lakeview Inn in Creston or Grayson’s BBQ in Clarence.
